So Long, Sureño: Opposite House Restaurant to Offer Its Last Dinner Service May 31

After a decade of serving elegant eats at the sunken garden of The Opposite House, Sureño is set to shut down. The Mediterranean style restaurant announced the closure via its official WeChat account this afternoon (May 25), adding that its last dinner service will be offered on May 31. Sad as the news may be for fans of the chic Sanlitun eatery, the Sureño team at least plan to go out on a high note with a "greatest hits" menu from May 28-31 that sees the return of its pizza, which helped the restaurant make a name for itself during a far different dining era when it debuted in 2008.

"As we at The Opposite House prepare to celebrate our tenth anniversary later this year, plans are in the works to reimagine our restaurants, bars, and public spaces. Unfortunately, this means saying goodbye to some of the things we all love to pave the way for these exciting changes," reads part of the WeChat announcement from the Sureño team. "As part of this transition, Sureno will offer its last dinner service on May 31 as we prepare for a new era in the life of our house."

No word yet on what those changes will entail, though the Beijinger will be sure to follow up as details develop. Regardless of what takes its place, Sureño will surely be remembered by many a Beijing foodie for its top-notch selection of reds and whites, which helped it snag an "Outstanding Wine Selection" nod in the Beijinger's 2011 Reader Restaurant Awards, the same year that the eatery won the highly coveted "Best Italian" plaque.
