Three Cheers for Summer at This Year's BritCham Summer Garden Party, Jun 7

When you think of Britain what comes to mind? The Queen? Tea and biscuits? Strawberries and cream on the lawn? Well, this Thursday, Jun 7, all of these inextricably English elements will come together at the British Ambassador's Residence for the annual British Chamber Summer Garden Party. Well, except the Queen, she had prior plans.

In spite of Liz 2 not being able to free up her busy calendar, that doesn't mean that we can't get back to basics from our little Beijing enclave and savor the more frivolous qualities of British culture, namely: booze, banter, food, and tennis (uncharacteristically, perhaps, while basking in the beautiful summer sun in the lush surroundings of the residence's terrace and gardens).

How does tennis fit into this year's party, you ask? Well, the event will take a Wimbledon bent to celebrate the rapidly approaching 132nd Grand Slam tennis tournament, which commences early next month. There'll also be food from TRB Catering, free-flow British drinks (the triple threat of beer, Pimm’s, and gin and tonic), live music from Stevie Mac and The Mac Daddies, and a healthy (till it's not) dose of strawberries and cream.

The British Chamber's Summer Garden Party runs 4.30-8.30pm on Thursday, Jun 7, at the British Ambassador's Residence. Tickets for this year's event can be bought here and cost RMB 200 for British Chamber of Commerce members or RMB 300 for non-members (24-hours advance online registration is required for all attendees).
