Renowned Authors Impart Their Writing Secrets at 4th EU-China Literary Festival

Today marks the launch of the fourth EU-China Literary Festival, a celebration of Chinese and European culture, authors, and books that will feature over 60 different events. This year's festival appears especially strong with 28 award-winning European authors making the journey to Beijing as well as a huge number of children's readings and workshops.

The free festival, which runs from May 17 until Jun 5, is a chance for aspiring writers to meet and delve into the challenges of penning books, short stories, and articles for a worldwide audience.

Many of the events put Chinese and European authors side by side to discuss various facets of their writing, methods, and the environments and experiences that inspire them. Highlights of this year's event include discussions between renowned Italian author Pierdomenico Baccalario (Ulysses Moore) and Chinese writer Su Tong (Wives and Concubines) about the creation of their literary worlds; Zsolna Ugron (A Transylvanian Love Story), Zhang Lijia (Lotus), and Di An (Ashes to Ashes) about "meeting" and fleshing out their compelling characters; and Feng Tang (Beijing, Beijing) and Sofronis Sofroniou (Modern Greek) on the underlying motivations and key challenges of their literary lives.

The events will take place at four venues across Beijing including The Bookworm and Citic Bookstores in Qi Hao/Genesis, Viva Mall, and The Place. There'll also be a rooftop market party at The Bookworm this Sunday (May 19) to help kick off the event, packed with wines, cheeses, and a wide variety of special EU products.
