2009 Sep 23 Food Fight! It's On!!

Ok foodies, here’s your chance to let off some critical steam. This week we launch the beijinger Food Fight!

Each week we’ll pick a category and ask you to tell us what’s hot and what’s not – and the best review of the week wins a prize!

Not only that but you will gain undying fame and fortune for your good taste as we highlight your review on the beijinger blog. A selection of reviews every month will also appear in the beijinger magazine.

This week’s category: PIZZA
This week’s prize: A RMB 200 voucher for Luga’s pho pho Vietnamese Restaurant & Bar.

Here’s the top five pizza joints in Beijing according to current user reviews (only venues with 3 or more reviews are counted):

1. The Kro's Nest
2. Pyro Pizza
3. Hutong Pizza
4. Pizza Buona
5. Danger Doyle's

We’re surprised The Tree isn’t in the top 5, given its popularity in our Annual Reader Restaurant Awards (it was the consensus pick by both readers and experts). And is Kro’s really the best in Beijing? We’ll leave it up to you to decide.

Can’t believe your own favorite place isn’t on the list? Then get writing. Just find the restaurant you’re after in our directory and click the “add a review” option on the right-hand-side of each entry. More detailed procedures are at the bottom of this post.

This week’s winner will be announced in this space next week, and then every Wednesday on the beijinger blog.

PS If you come across a venue that isn’t in our directory, email danedwards@truerun.com and let us know.

Here’s how to give your two cents:

1.    Log into thebeijinger.com (don’t have an account? Register here).
2.    Check out our Pizza Rankings here.
3.    Click on the restaurant you want to review
4.    Click on the star rating to add your review
5.    Voila!

Now FIGHT!

Re: Food Fight! It's On!!

Sounds good to me.

Love to fight for food!

Re: Food Fight! It's On!!

Can we throw pizza to each other to win the fight?

The best pizza of the world is "pizza napoletana"

The best pizza of the world is from Napoli, the best pizza of Beijing is from "La Pizza".
If you are one of the pizza purists in Beijing, this place would be your best choice. The equipments and ingredients are import from Napoli, like the dough, San Marzano tomatoes and Mozzarella Cheese from Campania Area. The chefs are Neapolitans. Come here to enjoy the South Italy atmosphere and try the genuine Neapolitan pizza in different sizes, take the 150 Centimeters Long and 35 cm large one if you are a big group!

Re: Food Fight! It's On!!

I'd give the point to Kro's Nest, being a football fan myself, it's nice to find a place to have some 15 kuai pints after the game, and the pizza's good. that's all i'm asking for..

  • Sanlitun Stirrings: Agua Returns and Mosto makes a move next door

Last December, we reported on the problems and subsequent closure of Aqua in Ch’ienmen 23. Today we received word via Chef Jordi Valles’s Facebook page that Aqua is preparing to re-open on the fourth floor of Nali Patio in Sanlitun.

This is welcome news for the many Beijing foodies who voted for Agua in Beijing’s various and sundry annual restaurant awards, and it is a fitting addition to a location already filled with some of the finest Spanish themed venues – including Spanish Deli Taste Spain, and tapas restaurants Carmen and Niajo – in the city.

  • It's Confirmed: SALT Moves in to The Rickshaw

A press release from SALT has just confirmed our suspicions, laid bare in this blog post from last week - that Gaby Alves and her team are indeed opening their new Sanlitun restaurant in the old Rickshaw space.

  • Capital Bites: SALT's Secret Sanlitun Project

Lido stalwart SALT have added a rather special luxury beer - Estrella Inedit - to their menu, created by El Bulli maestro Ferran Adria. Enjoy this beer (specially made to pair with food) for RMB 128 a bottle on SALT’s terrace when it opens May 20. Even more exciting is the recent cryptic announcement of Gaby’s new secret “Sanlitun project” to open June 8 – the blog title was a bit of a tease - we’ll keep you posted as soon as we get more info!

  • Another Blow For Legation Quarter: Meat & Wine Co. Closes

Days after winning our readers’ pick for "Best Steak" in the 2010 Reader Restaurant Awards,  the Legation Quarter’s Meat & Wine Co. has closed its doors.

  • Capital Bites: Enoteca coming to Sanlitun

Wine buffs should pop a cork at the news that Enoteca is scouting for a second branch, this time in Sanlitun. Tomaz, manager of the current branch in The Place, tells us the task of pinning down a suitably sized location is well underway, and that the new branch will have more of a nightlife vibe, even selling wine-based cocktails. Enoteca currently has two branches in Shanghai with a third in the works. And here's a date for your diary:  April 24th, Entoeca's Grand Wine Tasting featuring over 60 bottles, a good chunk of the wine list that won them "Outstanding Wine Selection" at our 2010 Reader Restaurant Awards. Tickets cost RMB 200 and include a tapas buffet from 5-8pm.
