BB King in Beijing?

Beijing Daze reported today on rumors that BB King will be making a December appearance in Beijing. Nothing is yet official, but BB King’s touring schedule does have a month-long gap that would fit with the proposed date, although much-anticipated live music acts and Beijing don’t have a happy history, so don’t hold your breath.

Beijing Daze is writes, “According to the grapevine, myspace and a few insiders in Beijing, the one and only BB King is due to grace the capital on December 11th and play the Worker’s Gymnasium along with Karen Mok [the Hong Kong-based singer-songwriter and actress].”

It’s an odd musical pairing, but according to songkick.com the concert is happening, though in certain pages is only billed as “The original Karen Mok show.”

BB King has continuously played and toured for over 50 years and even at 85 is still going strong. He’s a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and was listed #3 in Rolling Stones list of “100 greatest guitarists of all time.” According to Wikipedia, he has played over 15,000 performances through his career.

True or not, the rumor has raised hopes of seeing a musical legend that few people would have expected (or even hoped to) see in Beijing.
