Man Chops Off 9 Inches for Charity

A man who hadn’t gotten a proper haircut in over ten years was coerced to do so last month at TATA Salon.

What would you do if your office (in this case, ThoughtWorks Software Technologies) ganged up on you, raising over RMB 15,000 for a child-in-need on the terms that you chop off those long locks? This guy, Vincent Xu, cracked under the pressure and handed himself over to TATA Salon stylist Scarlet's scissor-ready hands.

While the nine inches of hair was donated to Locks of Love, the money was donated to Roundabout Charity Store. Some of you may have heard about its current perilous situation, but this longstanding NGO’s troubles have not stopped it from still accomplishing good. All the money raised went to 4-year-old orphan girl Ying Ying, who was born with a club foot and a big bump on her back. Unfortunately, her adoptive family backed out after learning about her spinal problem, so the orphanage has agreed to proceed with the surgery while she waits to be adopted again.

And now, thanks to this …

Roundabout has collected enough money to sponsor her operation at Beida Hospital or Bayi Children’s Hospital (depending on the availability of beds).

But there are many more children who need your support. TATA Salon is now serving as a drop-off point for Roundabout for cash donations, so head over there if you want to contribute.

In the meantime, Roundabout is still searching for a new and stable home. You can read more details about how to help on BeijingKids.com.
