Not Lovin' It: McDonald's Serves the Latest Food Scandal

Fast on the heels of some exciting fast-food news come reports of a more unappetizing nature. CCTV recently outed the McDonald’s Sanlitun branch for a whole host of food fouls that ranged from leaving cheese out for too long to serving hamburger patties that had fallen on the floor. That branch has been shut temporarily, leaving drunken bellies grumbling a little louder in the early morning hours.

The McDonald's located in Sanlitun Village South was featured in a CCTV undercover report aired last week for World Consumer Rights Day. Apparently, it was common practice for expiration dates to be ignored or falsified and for dropped food to be picked up, brushed off and served. The report also exposed a Henan Carrefour for mislabeling expired meat and selling factory chicken at more expensive, free-range chicken prices.

In a city saturated with one food scandal after another, this news doesn’t shock us anymore. Based on web chatter, it doesn't surprise anyone else. Netizen comments were practically blasé about the matter but they did pose a question that’s probably on everyone’s jianbing-loving mind: “Is McDonald’s or street vendors more hygienic/sanitary?”

Whether or not that’s put you off dining at the other Golden Arches around town, until the Sanlitun location reopens plenty of people will be looking for a new spot to grab a quick (and clean?) meal. Have a look at our Reader Restaurant Award posts (one and two) for some ideas. Still want a burger? Try Blue Frog, which our readers voted Best Burger. Meanwhile, Best Middle Eastern award-winner Biteapitta provides good value with its range of pita sandwiches. If it's late at night, stroll down Nansanlitun Lu to Haidilao or Jin Ding Xuan or amble around the Worker’s Stadium to Bellagio.

With all those options, and even more coming soon, there’s no reason to worry about grabbing that late-night bite.

Obviously they never heard of the Five Second Rule.

McD's even in America has never been the healthiest food however it is relatively safe because it's always monitored far more than if you're eating at other kinds of restaurants and homes. McD's has a higher level of standards because it's wide spread and scrutinized more than any other in the industry. The food is inspected before and after processing in the factories and before and after cooking at the stores and before and after being served. The incidences of mishaps and tragedy are rare. The food always tastes the same and really actually is always the same. Yes you will get cancer, you might die from a brain annuerysm and you will get fat and have diabetes and lower your lifespan and when you die it possibly will be attributed primarily to the fast food that you've eaten, however it's a longterm issue. You'll rarely ever die or suffer in the short-term from McD's food except from social issues and lack of productivity from over-all energy and health depletion that usually occurs very gradually, progressive but slow. It's a proven fact that disgruntled customers almost always return to being loyal customers shortly after the incident because of addiction to the food, convenience, and consistent quality and service :0)
