Wear Flip-Flops & Shorts At Suzie Wong's This Friday

The number of people who stop you around Chaoyang West Gate to ask for directions to Suzie Wong’s tells you that the club’s popularity has never waned, despite the fact that it’s nearly as old as some of the patrons of nearby Juicy. One thing that has always got us about Suzie’s, though, especially in the summer, is their dress code: “No shorts for men, no flip-flops for all.” Well, for one night only, that rule is being thrown out the window.
Summer Fiesta, on July 20, is breaking the rules. The dress code is shorts and flip-flops but they’re encouraging sandals and bikinis too. There will also be carnival games and what Las Vegas casinos call “games of skill.” Honestly, it’s worth the RMB 100 entry just to wear shorts in Suzie’s. This is an opportunity not to be missed. Go, photograph it and plaster it all over your social media – you were there.
Beijing’s Best Sips: the Beijinger vs. City Weekend

We’ve already compared the restaurant-related results of City Weekend’s Readers’ Choice Awards (announced last Wednesday, May 23) with the Beijinger Reader Restaurant Awards we gave out way back in March – click here for that. But what of nightlife? City Weekend also gave out awards in 11 nightlife categories, so how did they compare with the results of our 2012 Reader Bar & Club Awards? Let’s crack open a bottle of Yanjing and find out.
Beijing's Best Eats: the Beijinger vs City Weekend

We know, the awards fatigue must be through the roof by now. But all you eaters, drinkers and voters are about to have a rest, so we’ll wave you off into the sunset once we’ve properly compared the City Weekend results with those that you, dear readers, picked for our awards in March. 2012 Reader Bar & Club Awards: Bar of the Year

With all the results announced on Saturday at our 2012 Reader Bar & Club Awards party, now it's time to take a closer look at who won, who narrowly missed out and what it all means.
Yesterday we looked at the "Club of the Year" winners, so today we'll move on and look at the other one that everyone wants to win: Bar of the Year.
2012 Reader Bar & Club Awards: Club of the Year

With all the results announced on Saturday at our 2012 Reader Bar & Club Awards party, now it's time to take a closer look at who won, who narrowly missed out and what it all means.
Let's start with one of the big ones. Traditionally, we've given a single "Bar of the Year" award marking one venue out above all others. In 2004, the very first year of the Bar & Club Awards, a nightclub (Cloud Nine) actually won the top award, but since then the Bar of the Year award has been dominated by cocktail bars (Centro, Q Bar, Mesh), all-rounders (Fubar, First Floor, Browns) and a sole rock venue (D-22). This year, we decided to give the clubs more room by creating a "Club of the Year" award to parallel the "Bar of the Year" contest. So what of the "Club of the Year" winners?

Well I will be the first to say it "JAWS"
It stopped people from swimming and the cello tune is still the universal background musical for Sharks.
All the world's a stage and all the men and women merely players.

Why has this competition been open for enough time to watch both Weekend at Bernie's and Weekend at Bernie's II and no one has yet mentioned either?

It's impossible to think of beach movies without thinking of "Gidget."
Sandra Dee is perfect as Gidget (Girl + Midget), the lovable tomboy who learns to surf while all the other girls are learning how to snare boys.
It's an old, classic, cute beach movie

Heya,
My favorite movie that has do with a beach is Point Break with Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves.
Not really a beach movie in the classic style as Gidget, but has surfers and lots of action.
Cheers.

Sharktopus. Because this almost-naked chick gets chomped in half by a ridiculous half-shark, half-octopus while using a metal detector, and some old creeper guy just watches and then steals the treasure she found.

Can't believe nobody has mentioned this beach film: Castaway. Definitely the best beach film, who doesn't love Tom Hanks? He makes the best of a horrible situation, very resourceful guy, goes a little insane but who wouldn't? Everyone remembers the heart-wrenching scene where Wilson the volleyball, his only "friend" gets swept away by the ocean and the subsequent rescue. The story is very real and doesn't have a utopian happy ending, which is only good for sappy love stories.

The Endless Summer (1966)
Not only could it be considered one of the first "backpacker films" but it was an epic film depicting some of the great untouched surf spots in history. The Endless Summer 2 is also worth a peak.

No beach themed competition would be complete without Piñata: Survival Island. Jamie Pressly and the rest of the gang booze it up while the long slumbering Mayan piñata filled with ancient evil souls prays on the group. SPOILER ALERT: They eventually take him down by beating the ancient Mayan piñata with a stick. Did I mention there was a montage?
