Breaking Dining News: Terra Closing Its Doors

Due to a disagreement with its landlord, Terra has closed its Sanlitun location. They owners are aiming to find a new space in 2013.

Terra's been shut for weeks now, with owners telling us they were working on renovations, but there seemed to be some lag involved and many wondered if/when the cevicheria would open back up. Now we've learned that due to a few unfortunate rounds of negotiations with their landlord, they're leaving this space behind for good and will be looking for a new location in the coming year.

As the spot formerly occupied by other foreigner favorites like First Cafe and The Rickshaw, it seems this is not an easy space to occupy, though Terra made quite a good run of it. Now we know that some of the venue's misfortunes can be chalked up to an unreasonable landlord (anyone surprised?).

We'll keep you posted with more news as it comes, including who will be moving in. In the meantime, enjoy restaurateur Gaby Alves' good eats at her first restaurant, SALT, in Lido or her cafe, Zest, in Sanlitun. We wish the Terra team lots of luck as they work to resolve the issues and search for a new place.

That doesn't even make any sense.

Wow... I really hurt your feelings, huh? Sorry, little buddy. I'm sure you will do better next time.

You're the smart guy with all the criticism so put up or shut up. If you are a journalist then open yourself up to scrutiny. You have no problem pointing out what you perceive as other people's faults, how about yours? My guess is that you are not a journalist. You threw the first stone buddy, so let's see how strong your house is. You think you can do better? Prove it.

Sure, radioguy. I will reveal myself to the world and post samples of me doing things better than you can.. or better than this "Breaking News" story. All you have to do is not hide behind your brand new, fake ID and post your real name here first. No? As I thought.

If you were a journalist you would not have posted about how lousy others are at journalism. You would keep your opinions to yourself and make sure your own work was above rebuke. Are you a journalist? If so for who? I would love to read or watch or listen to you presenting us with fast, accurate news or events. No? As I thought.

The news angle on all of this is obscured by a poorly chosen headline.

Anyone reading beyond the headline (hey, i know most of the Twitter generation doesn't read anything but headlines) will realize that the story is that Terra has confirmed that they've given up on the possibility of reopening in that location and is looking for new digs. Or so they say.

Who says I'm not a journalist? You are super correct about the d*cks though... nom nom.

Relax Bottle-O. You sure seem to know a lot about journalism for a guy that isn't a journalist.

I bet the Beijinger staff doesn't come to your work and slap the dicks out of your mouth, so why are you so bent on slamming them? You have no idea of the politics and sensitivities involved in stories like this so maybe you should keep your mouth shut, unless it’s being filled with dick of course, which it is often I am sure.

Instead of being a smarmy little (c)runt why don't you try being useful to society for a change and actually create something instead of just complaining about it.

Closed since the middle of September.
You could have.. um.. i dunno, been journalists and done some research, or just talked to anyone around to confirm what was really going on with the location. Talking to the landlord would have been one simple way to get the story. I guess just sitting around and waiting for people to tell you what to write is one way to be a magazine though... I suppose.

@bottle-o Terra's been temporarily closed for a little over a month, yes, but until today it was entirely unconfirmed that they were closing for good. We could have pronounced them closed earlier, but it would have been unverified, and that to me seems like worse journalism. But thanks for your feedback.

LOL. Breaking news! The place has been shut down for 3 months and they have been taking proposals from other groups since then. You guys are the worst journalists ever. The only disagreement they had with the landlord is that they didn't want to rent the space any more and broke their contract.
