Reports: Fire in Sanlitun Village Restaurant

A fire broke out this afternoon in Sanlitun Village South. The fire seems to have started in Tairyo Teppanyaki, and reports suggest Thai restaurant Sukhothai and the recently opened Page One Bookstore may also have been affected.

We don't have a lot more than that, other than a Twitter post from writer and SinoScuba founder Steven Schwankert suggesting "all Village restaurants told to stop preparing hot food until fire handled." Mr. Schwankert tells us the fire seems to have been put out now, but as you'll see from the photos below the flames at Tairyo look pretty serious.

We'll update you later, but here are some of the photos that have been posted on Twitter and Weibo.

Designated Drinker - referring to any venues in particular?

One other update: Stumble Inn tell us that as they use electricity, not gas, they'll be able to serve hot food as normal tonight.

"Limited to cold/non-cooked food"....so what you are saying Iain...is that it is business as usual...?

Another update from Steven Schwankert at the Village:
"Village South restaurants apparently limited to cold/non-cooked food for the rest of the day as gas has been turned off as a safety measure"
