Photos: Great Wall Music Festival

We managed to power through the transport chaos at the Agricultural Exhibition Center to get to the Great Wall Music Festival and bring you these photos. Looks like these folks had a great time despite the outrageous prices for hot dogs (RMB 100) and water (RMB 50), and the massive crowds that had to overpower security guards in order to get to the main stage to see the DJ celebrity they had come so far for.

Just to clear things up: Against popular belief, David Guetta was not actually on the Wall, nor was the party. People were shaking their bodies next to the ticket office and souvenir shops for the Juyongguan section. The Wall was far off in the distance and was lit up by nightfall, which wasn't as thrilling. Had the souvenir shops actually been open and selling snacks and drink on the cheap, things might have been a little better.

The small stage had a consistently energetic crowd of dancers thanks to some pumping music, and overall spirits and satisfaction regarding the DJs seemed positive. By the time David Guetta went on stage, however, the majority of the crowd looked too exhausted from running to catch a bus to the venue to properly dance to the ground shaking bass. The girl behind me didn't even know who David Guetta was.

The clear, starry sky, a handful of Deadmaus masks, rad VJ effects and an overly enthusiastic David Guetta certainly made the night memorable. When you tell your friends back home what you did over the weekend, you can say you partied on the Wall with David Guetta, and they'll surely be impressed no matter what.

David Guetta was late and his set was way too short. And the absence of an after party was a bummer.
