Fast Food Watch: Starbucks' Best Beverage Is Back

Starbucks' best drink has returned, just in time for the beginning of autumn.

Your correspondent was thrilled Saturday to discover that the Salted Caramel Mocha was back, after the winter, spring, and a seemingly interminable summer.

This fine creation is mostly mocha, with a touch of caramel, all brought to life by the touch of sea salt sprinkled on top. The salt both accentuates and tempers the sweetness of the mocha and especially the caramel, for a blend of flavors that will bring most of your tongue to life. There's caffeine in it, too. Get it with whipped cream, otherwise the salt just hangs on the surface before drifting to the bottom. Having the last strawful of the drink be salty, rather than creamy or sweet.

If memory serves, the Salted Caramel Mocha will be around until it's pushed off the menu in late November by Christmas-themed drinks like Toffee Nut Latte and Peppermint Stick Latte. It sells for the same price as most frappuccinos: tall, RMB 30; grande, RMB 32; venti, RMB 36.
