New locations, Chinese Cheese and Unmissable Taiwanese Noodles

If you haven't stopped by yet, you have until Saturday June 14 to sample the "A Taste of Taiwan" buffet at Kerry's Kitchen, featuring the best of the island's renowned cuisine. The buffet costs RMB 258+ per person and includes foodie favorites such as pineapple cakes and beef noodle soup. We sampled the set menu at Horizon Chinese Restaurant last week (which has unfortunately already wrapped up) and found the Taiwanese beef noodle soup to be delicious.

A couple of foodie events to keep your brain and your belly ticking over this week. On Friday, The Hutong is bringing together a few of our favorite things – wine, cheese and art – all with a Chinese spin. Expect delicious cheeses from Beijing's own Le Fromager de Pekin and wines from EMW, in partnership with online photo gallery Kind of Light. Then on Sunday, Capital M will be hosting another one of their popular food talks, focusing on issues including food security, food safety and world hunger. Speakers include Brett Rierson from the World Food Programme China. Tickets are RMB 75, including a drink. Starts 5pm.

In the realm of new openings, popular Xingfucun restaurant O'Steak has opened a new branch on the western side of Central Park, a few doors down from L'Atelier. O'Steak took home the award for Best Steak (Casual Dining) at this year's Reader Restaurant Awards and you can be sure they've maintained the quality in the new location.

Long-time Japanese stalwart Jazz-Ya will be opening soon in Indigo Mall. This marks their third location after Sanlitun and Raffles City in Dongzhimen.

Finally, Shanghai transplant Southern Barbarian has quietly closed down its location on Baochao Hutong, to be replaced by another Yunnan restuarant, Detour (formerly of Jiaodaokou Beisantiao).
