The US Embassy and Today Art Museum Present Mixed Blood, Farewell My Concubine in 3D

The Global Times reported that the US Embassy in Beijing, is working in collaboration with Today Art Museum to present a new exhibition from artist CYJO. She will present a series of photographs and documents exploring 19 families of mixed ethnicities living in Beijing and New York.

CYJO is an American visual artist of South Korean descent who specializes in documenting the interesting relationship of families of mixed race. Many of her photos consist of families standing together, yet spaced apart to represent the individuality we posses as humans. This space allows you to see the family as a whole along with what physical characteristics or attitudes from each spouse are inherited by the children.

Along with the photographs, she interviewed and collected stories from the 19 families. These stories will accompany the photographs, to provide a greater insight to the very different lives of their ancestors, and address just how quickly the popular culture towards mixed race families has developed and changed.

Mixed Blood runs until June 18, after which it will head to Chengdu, Sichuan Province.

The Hollywood Reporter published last week, that a 3D video version of the classical Peking Opera production, Farewell My Concubine premiered at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.

This is the first in a series of classic Peking Operas that will be given the 3D treatment. You can expect all of that eye-popping acrobatic action and super stylized theatrical style specific to this genre of stage theater to really come alive, using cinematic techniques usually reserved for the big screen.

Though slightly adapted and shortened to fit the taste of a more western audience, it was the director, Junjie Teng’s goal to facilitate a way for western audiences to experience and appreciate the deep traditions of Chinese theater. This production was also used to celebrate 35 years of diplomatic relations between the United States and China.
