Frost's New Menu, Healthy Bites and Wine Delivered to Your Door

Brits in Beijing will rejoice at the discovery of a satisfyingly authentic plate of fish and chips (complete with thick-cut, double-fried chips). Said chips (plus fish) can be found at Frost, where chef-proprietor Jeff Powell has recently revamped the menu. The new menu focuses on casual classics, such as burgers and tacos, pasta and pizza. Fish and chips aside, we were particularly delighted with a trio of duck tacos (RMB 30), with the meat minced and spiced, chorizo-style, instead of simply shredded.

Frost also serves breakfast (think American and English-style fry ups, and chorizo and egg tacos) every day from 7am-3pm. Yep, you read that right, every day from 7am. This is a boon for Xingfucun residents in need of a pre-work breakfast spot or, for the next few weeks, World Cup fans looking for a spot to wind down during or after the 6am match slot.

If you’re more of the healthy type, Moka Bros have introduced a couple of new 'green and healthy' dishes for summer, including a mango iced green tea with lemon and mint (RMB 38) and some literally green dumplings (RMB 38) with spinach wrappers and a pork-shiitake mushroom-water chestnut filling. The dumplings are pan seared then cooked in the oven, making them a healthier choice than your usual hole-in-the-wall guotie.

Also in Nali Patio, Parnas’ second-floor restaurant has launched a new summer menu, emphasizing playful presentation and flavor combinations, for example in a dish of seared Japanese scallops, house-cured duck breast and caramelized pineapple (RMB 138).

Finally, if there's anything I like more than wine, it's obtaining wine without leaving the house, especially if it's a cut above the usual supermarket offerings. Lazy drinkers like me will rejoice, then, to hear about the Signature Wine Club, a new subscription-based service that will ship two or three bottles of expert-selected wines (along with tasting and pairing notes) to your door each month. Prices start from RMB 299 per month for two bottles. We tried out the May selection (pictured above) and particularly enjoyed a sprightly Viognier.
