The DIY Transformers of Shandong Province, Beijing Being's Fundraising Dance-a-thon

Farmers in Shandong province are giving up their crops to build giant Autobots and Decepticons to sell to China’s Transformer obsessed elite. China Daily reported that these 52ft sculptures are being built from welded together spare car parts and take over a month to build. So far they have built over a 100 of these mechanical beasts, that sell for USD 16,000. While they don't actually move or shoot fire from their arms, they are certainly impressive feats.

While I am personally looking forward to the end of Transformers pandemonium, what will these farmers do when interest in these earth defending robots fades? Maybe they’ll build kit cars, torture devices, or brutalist furniture. I would love some robot themed boudoir furniture for my pad.

Check out this fundraising dance-a-thon party tonight for Beijing Being. For those of you not in know, Beijing Being is about a young artist struggling to choreograph and develop her cabaret performance in the midst of a 100 day visa crackdown. The pageantry of the cabaret, and the tribulations of visa policies are two things us expats can all relate to. Check out the trailer on their Kickstarter page.

While shooting has been completed there is still loads of production work to be done before it is completed and this requires money. To push the funds for this indie flick over their already acheived Kickstarter goal of AUD 12,000 and to build up a little hype for this Beijing-made feature flick from Australian director Emma Jaay, 4 Corners and the film's cast and crew will be holding a fundraising Dance-a-thon. You can expect plenty of great DJs, including Geisel J, Diego Funkyto and Mihal playing some cinematically sweet tunes, a sneak preview of the movie, and a raffle with a yet to be disclosed list of prizes. Entry is RMB 50 with one free drink, and will last from 8pm till late.
