Fan Bingbing to Play Anna May Wong in Biopic, Chopstick Brothers Do it Big With Little Apple

Variety Magazine reported that the Shanghai based production company, Fundamental Films is developing a new biopic based on the life of Hollywood icon Anna May Wong. It has been disclosed that they have approached Beijing starlet Fan Bingbing for the lead. The film, tentatively title Dragon Lady, is being penned by Jonathan Keasy and Brant Boivin.

Anna May Wong rose to fame in America after staring in 1924’s Thief of Bagdad, but throughout her career was forced to play stereotypes that often put her in negative favor with the Chinese, and didn’t allow her to rise above the exotic east Asian characters she was often forced to play in Hollywood.

Check out this funny new music video for the song Little Apple from the Chopstick Brothers. They recorded it for their new feature film Old Boys: The Way of the Dragon and it’s now bigger than steamed baozi. Their film has so far made about USD 30 million at the box office and is continuously benefiting from the success of this clever marketing strategy.

Though the music isn’t necessarily my cup of cha, they do have some psychedelic visuals, a botched plastic surgery, and a whole Adam and Steve thing that makes for an interesting viewing, before you start wanting to go all Oedipus on your eyeballs.

Old Boys is a comedic tour de force about a pair of amateur Chinese musicians who finally find success in the music biz. The film was originally a self produced micro movie available from various streaming platforms, but after 75 million hits it was decided to turn it into a big-screen feature, financed by Chinese video company Youku Tudou
