We're Number Three! China Places Third on HSBC Expatriate Life Poll

It's great to be an expatriate in China, which has ranked third on a survey of over 100 countries conducted by HSBC in terms of compensation for expats. Although people here aren't raking in quite as much as in Switzerland, where a quarter of respondents are making over USD 200,000, China can't be too far behind, as it placed number one in the "economics" breakdown, a sub-category of the rankings.

However, China failed to place in the top ten in either of the other two sub-categories, "experience" and "raising children."

"Asian countries may account for terrific remuneration, but not necessarily the greatest living experience. You'll note China is not in the top ten countries for raising children. Many expatriates, particularly those living in Beijing, the smog-clogged Chinese capital, fear the long-term effects of the country's air pollution on their kids," The Washington Post wrote in its analysis of the survey. They just can't leave us alone, can they?

Take in consideration that survey is about living in China as an EXPAT not as an english teacher.

I agree with the Spanish fellow. This poll does not make any sense at all! Most of the people I know, who worked in international companies, have left China because of the pollution issues. Salaries in China cant be compared with those in developed countries.

Where did they take the data from?? Was it provided by Chinese Officers? Biggrin

The HSBC workers were really bored these days ... it´s better if they keep doing accounts instead of confusing people with this rubish ... if USA is in the 30th position and UK in number 33 ... this report has no sense! (and I´m not american or english)
