Maovember Set for 京A Pig Roast Sunday

One week into the event known as Maovember and the mustache-cum*-health fundraiser is already more than halfway to reaching its initial goal of RMB 20,000.

On Sunday, November 9, from 4-6pm 京A Taproom will host the next in a series of events, featuring some very unique pulled pork. 京A ships the spent grain from its beer-making to Green Cow farm in Shunyi, which the farm feeds to its pigs. To express their gratitude for the grain, Green Cow is giving 京A a pig, well, for consumption. The beer guys are donating the pig to Maovember this year, and after it is roasted, smoked, and pulled by Home Plate Bar-B-Que, the pork will sell on sandwiches for RMB 30 each, with all proceeds going to Maovember.

The event is part of a three-venue tour of Sanlitun South for Maovember on Sunday, including stops at Home Plate at 2pm and The Local at 6pm.

All proceeds will benefit Orbis China, which provides sight-restoring cataract surgery to people from rural areas in need. Each surgery costs only RMB 800, but this is often beyond the means of the afflicted. However, once the surgery is performed, many of the beneficiaries are able to return to work. Read the story of one of these people at the Maovember website.
