HBO Finds New Home in China With Tencent Video (Sans the Sex and Violence)
Holy mother of dragons, this past Tuesday, HBO and Chinese Internet mega company Tencent made public a content deal that will make Tencent Video the exclusive provider of all HBO series, including Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, True Detective, and more.
Details have yet to be released about when this content would become available, as it will first have to make its way past government regulators, who will most likely censor all of that delicious immoral content.
This deal will give HBO an official online home in China. As of now only pirated versions of these shows are available and not for very long, as the new year will start a series of limitations on how much foreign content these streaming sites can host and along with the removal of all movies and series that haven't been approved or censored by the authorities.
HBO seems excited about the partnership and is eager to legitimately distribute their acclaimed programming to viewers across the mainland. We can only imagine what a censored version of Game of Thrones would look like. Deleting the full frontal nudity, incest, and graphic fantasy violence would most likely just create a superabundance of untrustworthy looks, post coital moments, and dragons. Lots of dragons.
Here's a rundown of the content deemed vulgar by the State General Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television in the following HBO programs:
Game of Thrones: One night stands, extramarital affairs, partner swapping, excessive physical contact, sexual abuse, flirtation, rape, incest, prostitution, sexual perversion, murder, gore, suicide, kidnapping, gambling, ghostly scenes, racy subtitles, nudity.
True Detective: One night stands, extramarital affairs, excessive physical contact, sexual abuse, flirtation, rape, prostitution, sexual perversion, murder, gore, suicide, kidnapping, racy subtitles, nudity.
