Beijing Startup Creates '150Alice,' the World's Most Collaborated Art Book

Did you know that 2015 is the 150th anniversary of the publication of Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland? In honor of the occasion, Beijing-based app startup Pickatale has launched 150Alice, a charitable project bringing together 150 artists from 42 countries to create a special 150th anniversary illustrated edition of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. All funds raised from the project will go to building an art school for children in Zuunkharaa, Mongolia.

The project, which is currently seeking funding on Indiegogo, aims to raise USD 50,000. The project was conceived after Pickatale founder Sigbjørn Dugal visited Mongolia and was moved by the bleak conditions that many families were living in. He sought the support Mrs. Oyunchimeg Dash, the wife of the Mongolian Ambassador to China, and together they decided that providing an art education for the children would give them a chance to develop their talent and offer their families a brighter future.

Quote:
"Lewis Carroll created Wonderland, and the story surrounding it, out of his love of entertaining children. 150 years later, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is still enjoyed by children all over the world through books, games, movies and art. We are here to drive forward Lewis Carroll’s idea of encouraging art and creativity among children. With your generous support, we can help a generation of children develop a more vivid imagination." 150Alice Indiegogo Page

The 150Alice version of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is a fully illustrated 28cm x 28cm, 300-page hardcover book, made up of 150 pages of text and 150 vibrant illustrations. Pickatale restyled the original text into 150 segments, and sent each piece to one of their network of artists to imagine that piece in their own way. The team spent more than two years searching for artists.

As usual with Indiegogo, the more money you donate, the more perks you will receive. For example, a USD 25 donation gets you the PDF version of the book, along with a thank you note from Pickatale, while a USD 60 donation will get you a hardcover copy of the book. Check their Indiegogo page for more details of international shipping.
