Misfit Launches New Wearable Device Shine 2 at Large-Scale Beijing Event

San Francisco-based wearable device company Misfit surprised some this week by holding their latest product launch in Beijing. Founder and CEO Sonny Vu commented that despite being available in 50 countries, China is one of Misfit's biggest and fastest growing markets, so they decided to hold the event here.

Held at the W Hotel Beijing, the event marked the official launch of the Misfit Shine 2, a wearable fitness and sleep monitor. Misfit pride themselves on producing elegant, stylish wearables and the Shine 2 is no exception you could genuinely wear this for a night on the town. This is a key part of Shine 2's "Always On" philosophy, which basically suggests that the more you wear it, the more useful it is. And with a features list including a silent vibrating alarm, activity monitoring for a range of sports (walking, running, cycling, swimming), water resistance to 50m (handy for that swimming), capacitive touch, text and call notifications, and sleep quality and duration tracking, you probably won't actually want to take it off anyway.

Forgetful types will be delighted to hear that it never needs charging just replace the coin cell battery after six months (although I suppose forgetful types would forget to do that too).

True fitness freaks might be disappointed that the Shine 2 doesn't come with a heart rate monitor, but at this price it's hard to complain (the cheapest Fitbit with a heart rate monitor will set you back RMB 1,298 on JD.com).

Priced at RMB 799, the Shine 2 is available in two colors: carbon black and rose gold. The removable face ships with a slim black PVC wristband and can be slotted in to a range of accessories, including a necklace and a clip that can be attached anywhere, including footwear. The device connects to the Shine 2 iOS app (an Android is coming soon) via bluetooth, allowing you to view your goals and statistics.

You can reserve your Shine 2 now exclusively through JD.com, and the device will go on sale on October 28, with an estimated shipping date of November 11 (which also happens to be one of China's biggest shopping days ...).

The original Shine is available on Misfit's official JD.com store for RMB 499.
