A Closer Look at the Restaurant Awards: Beijing's Best American Restaurants

In March, our readers voted for the Beijinger’s 2016 Reader Restaurant Awards. And let’s take a closer look at the winners.

Home Plate Bar-B-Que (above) was voted the Best American Restaurant. This ever-popular place’s menu is getting thicker and thicker. The classic pulled pork, brisket sandwiches, Texan-style meat, and coleslaw are still here. The decoration is full of country tunes with red bricks. Besides their signature burger The Itis placed in the top four in the Beijinger 2015 Burger Cup.

If I’m hungry and don’t want to waste time to study the menu, I would probably go directly for the pulled pork sandwich, and it never fails me.

The Outstanding American restaurants are Blue Frog and Great Leap Brewing #12 Brewpub. Shanghai-based restaurant chain Blue Frog already has four branches in Beijing, and it is famous for its burgers, including its Monday night, buy-one-get-one-free burger deal. Coupled with the daily buy-one-get-one-free drinks on happy hour, the signature burger Montana is a must try.

For craft beer lovers, the always bustling Great Leap Brewing #12 Brewpub is not only a place to grab a greasy cheeseburger, but also a place to relax and enjoy a beer. The brunch is decent, and sometimes, choosing one out of the 18 -19 craft beers is hard.

You could also try The Local, which has a good selection of American food, and which recently revamped their menu. Their spring cocktail, the Naughty Pear, is our most recent obsession.

Slow Boat Brewery won the Beijinger's 2015 Burger Cup with its signature Fryburger, and also provides great craft beers in a quiet hutong area -- at least until their new flagship venue opens in Sanlitun this summer.
