Beijingers Choose Pizza Hut, KFC, and McDonald’s as Their Favorite Restaurant Brands

One month on from our Beijinger 2016 Reader Restaurant Awards, on April 26 the list of 2015 Beijing Top 10 F&B Brands was released by the Beijing Cuisine Association, the Beijing Catering Trade Association, and the Beijing Traditional Brands Association.

On the list, Pizza Hut, KFC, and McDonald’s occupied the top three spots, followed by Xiabu Xiabu, Quanjude, Yoshinoya, Beijing Airport (really?), Meizhou Dongpo, and Jinbaiwan. Rounding out the top 20 are, Jude Hua Tian (Huguosi Xiaochidian), Qingfeng Baozi, Donglaishun, Dadong, Mahua Noodles, Wangshunge, Yonghe, Jindingxuan, Hehegu, and Bianyifang.

The top 10 brands list was voted by public on the Beijing Cuisine Association’s official wechat, during April 1 to 15. Each person could vote once per day, which weighed towards 30 percent of the total result. Press votes counted towards 30 percent, and expert opinion made up the remaining 40 percent.

“In 2015, the revenue of the food and beverage industry in Beijing was RMB 84.7 billion, which increased 3.3 percent compared to last year, and stopped the decline of the previous two years. The food and beverage industry contributed 8.29 percent to 2015’s total retail sales of consumer goods in Beijing,” the president of Beijing Cuisine Association Yun Cheng said. “Chain restaurants are leading the market, with 95 restaurants out of 100 on the list being chain restaurants.”

The revenue of fast food chains increased 6.8 percent in 2015, which was higher than the whole industry’s increase of 3.3 percent, according to Sohu.
