Food Coma Ahoy: TRB Bites' Afternoon Tealights is Beijing's Most Indulgent Option for Afternoon Tea

We have alerted you about the new afternoon tea at TRB Bites, but this weekend we went to actually check it out to see what it is all about. We went for the deluxe set, and were seated by the window. Apart from the fact that it got a little warm when the sun came out, the view was just great.

The deluxe set, pictured above, came with a tier of sandwiches, sweets and cakes, and more puddings on top. Aside from these, we also got freshly baked scones and a set of savory deep-fried snacks (think spring rolls, a cheese and spinach croquette, and some vegetable tempura). On top of that, there's a special lobster sandwich, a mango panna cotta, and a foie gras burger.

The scones (especially the chocolate ones) were a favorite: moist, warm, and served alongside fresh cream, strawberry jam, and marmelade. Does't get any better than that. On the savory side, the cucumer sandwich was probably one of the best cucumber sandwiches we've had in town (I mean, it's just cucumber and bread so that takes skill!), and just as tasty as the lobster sandwich.

The promotion is available between 2-5pm. A standard set costs RMB 168 for one, or RMB 298 for two. Adding two glasses of sparkling wine comes in at RMB 428. The deluxe set costs RMB 190 for one, and RMB 368 for two, and add RMB 500 for two glasses of sparkling wine. Prices are subject to 10 percent service charge, but the set is worth the money: this is the largest afternoon tea set we've seen in Beijing, and we've reviewed many.
