'Star Trek Beyond' Coming to Chinese Cinemas on Sep 2

Star Trek Beyond (星际迷航3:超越星辰), the third instalment in Paramount's rebooted sci-fi series, is coming to Chinese cinemas on September 2.

While obviously that’s good news for China-based Trekkies, it’s still over a month after it debuts in North America this week on July 22.

The latest film, directed by Justin Lin of the Fast and the Furious franchise, was probably always going to make it to the mainland – especially after Alibaba invested in it earlier this year.

The last film, Star Trek Into Darkness, grossed almost USD 60 million in China in 2013.

Beyond sees Captain Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise marooned on a distant planet after the destruction of their spaceship where they encounter an alien warrior race.

It will feature in 3D, IMAX 3D and China Giant Screen.
