Perk Up With Tribe Lido's Coffee and Pastries

Is your morning routine dragging you down? If you're contending with grogginess, bland breakfast options, or an overall case of early-hours blues, then fret not: Tribe Lido has readied coffee and pastries that'll make you look forward to waking up.

The recently-opened venue already has a sterling reputation as a restaurant, thanks to its healthy organic meals, as well as a prime nightlife destination, due to its creative, fresh cocktails and undeniably fun events. The next F&B frontier that Tribe aims to conquer is the café segment. Tribe has already gained quite a bit of momentum thus far with its three most popular coffees: americanos, lattes, and (most intriguingly of all) its original Tribe Coffee, the latter of which is a cold-brewed organic variety that features delicious hints of cardamom and orange. The beverages are matched by equally tasty pastries, including Laidback Lemon Tart With Almond Crust and Coconut Cream (whose sweet taste goes perfectly with the latte), Vegan and Gluten-Free Dark Chocolate Fudge Brownie (which boasts a richness that makes it perfect for pairing with the americano), and Gluten-Free Pumpkin Bread (a more distinctive option that matches up perfectly with the equally unique Tribe Coffee).

While these options taste great, customers will also be tempted by the affordability of the coffee, which is bolstered by a 50 percent discount every weekday morning before 11am. Timothy Chia, Tribe's vice president of sales and marketing, says this discount is a point of pride because: "As coffee drinkers ourselves, we understand how important that first cup of coffee is in the morning and we wanted to make things even sweeter for our guests by offering this discount in all our outlets. We really don't think there's a better deal on coffee in town and we also don't think it makes much sense to spend a large amount on a mediocre cup of chain coffee when you can get something this good for a much more attractive price."

And though Tribe's coffee is indeed affordable, the quality of its beans and flavor are nothing short of luxurious. Chia says this can be attributed to the fact that: "We use organic coffee beans that have been specially roasted for us by our friends at Rickshaw Roasters. We also never offer white sugar to our customers. If people absolutely must add sugar, we only offer organic raw sugar to them."

Regardless of whether customers have a sweet tooth or an affinity for bitter flavors, Tribe will satisfy all their preferences with its spectrum of java options. "We offer one of the widest varieties of coffee you'll find in Beijing," Chia says, adding that Tribe serves up espressos, flat whites, cold-brewed, pour-over coffee, and more. Better still: Tribe's staff continually experiments, tweaks and enhances its beverages in order to keep customers coming back for more. Chia says a prime example is Tribe's recently launched new set of lattes that come in cinnamon, turmeric, chai, and matcha varieties. Chia says all those options have "different health benefits. Cinnamon, for example, is loaded with antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties."

An equal amount of creativity has been applied to the pastries. Tribe's dark chocolate fudge brownie is not only vegan but also deliciously distinctive, thanks to the cashew butter and black beans featured in its recipe. Chia is also partial to the restaurant's pumpkin bread and Laidback Lemon Tart, which he says, "are both really 'more-ish' treats and are good at any time of day! All the aforementioned pastries are gluten-free which makes Tribe a real purpose of visit for our customers who are on a gluten-free diet, but don't want to compromise on having a delicious meal."

Chia and his colleagues hope that their tempting pastries and coffees not only quell customers' hunger, but also leave such guests feeling comfortable enough to take advantage of the venue's inviting design. Indeed, the the spacious interior, sunny deck, cozy chairs, and ample placement of leafy plants all make the Tribe Lido an ideal workplace or the perfect spot for a meeting.

Chia says "Tribe Lido is designed to handle all sorts of events, both in-house and private hire. In the few months that we've been open, we've done a wide range of events from our own Tribe henna-painting dinner – as part of our "Dine & Design" events series  to the Beijing Fringe Festival 2016 Press Conference, to even hosting my own Beijing Wedding dinner for 100 people."
He says those feats help the venue attract a wide range of regulars, who love to sip on Tribe's coffees while tapping out their latest inspiring assignment on their laptops. "We get a really interesting and fascinating mix of customers at Tribe," Chia says. "One of them recently came to Tribe Lido for lunch and she liked the food so much that she ended up having an impromptu meeting with me about Tribe potentially catering her fashion label's upcoming launch party."

Tribe Lido's staff plan to keep that thrust going with a range of new forthcoming endeavors. Chia says: "We're definitely planning to unveil more exciting new drinks and pastries in the coming months. We also plan to really beef up our already popular breakfast offerings and leave our customers even more spoilt for choice! What's more, we're working on some family-friendly events that will encourage lots of bonding between parents and children, so there are plenty of reasons to watch this exciting space of ours!"
