What’s Up in Beer: Slutty Mermaid on Tap at Slow Boat, Haircuts at Gulu Bazz, Arrow Factory Brewing CNY Party, New NBeer Location

We love winter days like this, crisp and bright because all this wind is blowing away our sorrow. You might want to consider weighing yourself down with some beer bottles to make sure you're not blowing away... Or just stay indoors at one of the venues listed below, safely away from the Siberian breeze.

After a long wait, the Slutty Mermaid Triple IPA is finally on tap at both of Slow Boat's locations starting today (Friday) at RMB 55. That's right: the sailors slowly dry-hopped three batched of hops to make the beer more aromatic and hoppy. Whether this beer is slutty enough or not, I’ll leave you to try and decide. Don't do anything we wouldn't do.

Jing-A is bringing back the Hutong Haircut Brunch at Gulu Bazz (formerly Cuju) on Saturday (Jan 21), to start the year off with a fresh buzz. Get there between noon to 5pm, order a glass of Jing-A beer, and get a free haircut from the barber on-site. Beer choices are Tuhao Gold Pilsner (5 percent ABV) and Hutong Clan CDA (9 percent ABV). While you're waiting, check out Badr's specially prepared shakshuka brunch. Whoever gets the most hair cut off will win a free Jing-A winter hat (so that you don't catch a cold. How thoughtful).

Arrow Factory Brewery (Liangma River location) will be hosting a pre-CNY party on Saturday night (Jan 21). This Saturday, they will offer a two-for-one deal on one of our favorites: the Seeing Double IPA. On top of that, every hour there will be different beers on offer. If you are lucky enough, their Final Bell Barley Wine will still be on tap. You better try the last drops before this warming beer (with 11 percent ABV) is gone.

After operating the original Huguosi location, and the kind of lousy and empty Sanlitun branch, NBeer Pub will open a third location, far, far in the west, around Wukesong. Because they are renovating, it won't open until after Chinese New Year, but we hope it will be more lively than the Saniltun location.
