New La Feria Brunch at Migas Adds a Festive Air to Your Weekend Brunching

Never content to let an opportunity for change and innovation pass them by (see also: the weekly changing set lunch menu), the team at Migas have switched up their brunch menu in time for spring, offering a new concept that they're calling La Feria. The brunch is named after "La Feria de Abril," a popular festival held every year in Seville. As such, the room is decked out with fun festive touches like red and white striped curtains to mimic the striped tents of the festival grounds.

The brunch kicks off with a "fresh station," featuring a selection of salads, cold soups, and snacks such as Spanish omelet, and a "montadito bar," a selection of tapas-sized sandwiches with a wide selection of fillings such as Spanish ham, Manchego cheese, roasted vegetables, and cured salmon.  Perhaps the only thing we missed was the selection of house-cured meats and Spanish cold cuts that was on the previous brunch menu but in fairness they do pop up in the sandwich fillings.

Don't fill up on those sandwiches, however (they're bigger than they look). While you're attacking the appetizer table, the wait staff will start bringing round a selection of tapas, including ham croquettes, clams stewed in garlic and white wine, flamenquines (a breaded, deep-fried pork roll with ham and cheese), and – the Beijinger's favorite – gambas al ajillo, prawns cooked quickly in garlic and plenty of olive oil. This one is our favorite because instead of the piddly shrimp Migas' version uses huge meaty tiger prawns. The garlicky oil is begging to be mopped up with some bread, too.

You might think it ends there, but you'd be wrong. After the tapas comes the "bandeja de pescaito," a platter of fried fish including salt cod fritters, cubes of yellowtail, baby sardines, and cuttlefish to be shared between the table. The salt cod fritters are the highlight here, FYI. And, of course, it wouldn't be Migas without paella. You can choose from some of their most popular varieties, such as seafood paella, black rice with garlic squid, or vegetarian paella (we're especially pleased to see a vegetarian option on there). To be honest, we were getting pretty full at this stage, so the paella didn't have much impact but you can rely on Migas to churn out a reliable version.

The brunch ends with that most festive of Spanish desserts – churros – brought around on a cart (signaled by a hangover-rattling bell).

As always, the brunch is priced at RMB 268 per person, with the option to add free flow sangria, Spanish house wines, beer, soft drinks, coffee, and tea for RMB 148 per person. You can also order à la carte from their drinks menu, which includes a new addition, the Rebujito (RMB 258 per jug), made with Fino sherry, Sprite, and fresh mint, an unusual if refreshing and surprisingly enjoyable combo. The La Feria brunch is available on both Saturday and Sunday, 11.30am-2.30pm.
