Bubble Whammy: Wanzha Milk Tea Offers 15 Varieties of the Good Stuff in Sanlitun

It's no secret that we here at the Beijinger are obsessed with bubble tea, which is we can only assume Wanzha in Sanlitun's Topwin Center opened for us specifically, determined to answer our milk tea dreams.

What sets Wanzha apart is that they provide not one, two, or three, but 15 different kinds of bubbles – from fruity varieties such as strawberry, grapefruit, kiwi, mango, to floral ones like rose, and even "special" options including cheese, matcha, and chocolate. Add to these your choice of pure, fruit/flower, or milk tea and you're all set. If you want to go crazy, add cheese, aloe, or white wood ear, the latter praised for its health benefits.

If you find yourself overwhelmed by all the choices on offer, we recommend sticking to the signature drinks, such as lapsang souchong latte, bubble tea with brown sugar, and rose with fruit tea – available in hefty one-liter portions. The matcha latte (RMB 27) was a favorite for its toasted matcha flavor, and the addition of fresh milk instead of non-dairy creamer should help you feel less guilty when you order milk tea for the third time this week.

Another advantage is that Wanzha displays its tea samples in the jars at the counter so you can give them a sniff before you order. Add this to the store's handmade bubbles and fresh milk, and you'll find that Wanzha provides enough of a variance on the already tired bubble tea experience that, overlooking the higher price tags, may have you reigniting the feelings that helped you once fall in love with the creamy stuff in the first place.
