What’s Up in Beer: Deals and Brews for Golden Week, and Yet Another Goodbye
Hey beer lovers, the Golden Week of drinking holiday is just around the corner, and I bet you have already started to count down towards it. If you aren't going abroad and enjoying a sunny escape on the beach, or traveling to chase after some of Asia's biggest beer festivals (check out a good list here, and my review of the epic Mikkeller festival in Tokyo, here), staying in this city is always a good choice because there are plenty of deals and brews to make it into a beer-staycation. Ok, take a deep breath, let’s start.

Daily Specials at Great Leap
To comfort lonely left-behind souls, Great Leap Brewing will put a different beer on special for RMB 25 every day for Golden Week, including Silver Needle White Ale, Walls End Saison, Chesty Puller APA, Bearded General IPA, Liu the Brave, and the newly released easy drinking Many Daughters Lager. Check the schedule above. Available all day long at both locations.
Happy Birthday, XFC Brewpub!
Jing-A XFC Brewpub turns one, and they are throwing a birthday party on Sep 28 from 5pm till late. Specials will be as follows:
- Free Glass of Flying Fist IPA for anyone with a ticket to the 2018 8x8 Festival (or buy one on the spot!);
- Two New Beers Launching with all-night Happy Hour pricing: Über-Jing Oktoberfest & Beijing Kush IPA
- Free Shot of Bourbon or Tequila when you order any BBQ meat set (get four with the Carnivore Platter).
From 8pm until late they will have DJ Tanner spinning in the main bar room, and you can book a table by calling 6416 5195.
Jing-A Revisits Old Friends
On Friday (Sep 28), the Jing-A dudes will put the seasonal Über-Jing Oktoberfest Lager (with 6.5 percent ABV, brewed with Vienna, Pilsner malts, and Hallertauer Tradition hops) back on tap for the fifth year. The experimental West Coast-style Beijing Kush IPA, brewed with Australian and New Zealand hops will also be on tap. The brewpub will remain open daily at 11am with all day Oktoberfest deals of RMB 80 for one liter steins of the Über-Jing Oktoberfest Lager from Oct 1-7.
New Faces at Slow Boat
Slow Boat has recently debuted two new beers. First up: the Three Stars Brut IPA (if you don’t remember our description about this new style, check here), which is super-dry, effervescent, barely-bitter on a standard IPA with a decent 7 percent ABV. Then there's the Moby's Dick Double Red IPA, a malt-forward, deep ruby-hued beer that is dry hopped with Comet and Mosaic hops to get a floral hop aroma, with a 7.2 percent ABV. Don't forget that today (Sep 28) is the last day of their IPA week, check it out, or you'll have to wait for another year.
Tap Takeover at Peiping Machine
Master Gao is taking over the taps Peiping Machine's Gongti location on Sep 29. All the 20 drafts will be on special for RMB 35 a pint. Three pints will get you a souvenir glass, five pints will get you a beer opener, and ten pints get you a special T-shirt. Beers include Baby IPA, Heroic Water Imperial River, Barrel-aged Barleywine, Mad Ting IPA, Rye IPA, and Lumberjack Lager. If you haven’t tried any of Master Gao’s beer (seriously, have you been to 7-Eleven?), then this is a great chance to try them all.
Deals at The Great Outdoors
The Great Outdoors are also getting in on the Golden Week action, and will have some tempting deals running. If you buy three of their own brews, you'll get one free. If you buy two bottles of Temple beer, meanwhile, you'll get one Kaiju beer free.

Yep, that's right. Today marks my last day at the Beijinger.
