InkBeat Arts Hosts Free Creative Workshops for Adolescents This Sunday

The highly commercialized Singles’ Day (Nov 11, or 11/11) is fast approaching, though ironically, most people taking part aren’t actually single; they’re just spending quality time with their smartphones on the days preceding, trying to "succeed" in this mobile shopping frenzy (you don't have to, you know).

Yes, Singles’ Day doesn’t have to be about shopping or smartphones; it can also be about introducing youngsters to a community of fellow creative minds, as our friends from InkBeat Arts are doing this Sunday. Should you happen to be a parent or teacher and know of students who might want to expand their repertoire of fun and engaging activities not usually seen in school, this series of free workshops on Nov 11 could be just the ticket.

"The workshops are delivered in English and Chinese are for students ages 8-18 who want to develop creative skills through self-expression. They will be led by experts in creative writing, drama, visual art, art therapy, design, architecture, and dance," state the organizers.

The theme for this inaugural round of workshops is “Express Yourself,” with activities involving anything from visual art and art therapy through to dance, drama, and creative writing.

  • Workshop 1, 9.30-11am: Movement Improvisation: Self-Others-Space led by Rosalyn Shih, co-founder of Beijing Contact Improv
  • Workshop 2, 11.15am-12.15pm: The Healing Power of Arts with Travis Yang
  • Workshop 3, 1-2.30pm: Drama and Play Workshop with Sophie from Proto Art School
  • Workshop 4, 3-4pm: Self-Expression Through Poetry led by Simon Shieh, InkBeat Arts Director

If you're unable to make it this time around, don't fear because InkBeat Arts will hold these creative workshops every second and last Sunday of the month until Jan 31 at Crossboundaries in Sanlitun. Students aged 8-18 years old are welcome to join for free but registration is required (scan the QR code in the poster above). The events will take place between 10am and 4pm.
