5 Things to Taste, Smell, Touch, Hear, and See, Mar 15-17

Beijing can be an overstimulating place to live, to say the least. Let’s be real: sometimes even our sixth sense (the one that tells you when that stick of chuan'r will make you sick for the next two days) gets a decent workout. With such a wide variety of events, restaurants, and gigs to attend, we suggest bathing each of your five senses in one, if not all, of the nourishing goings-on below.

Taste

We hate to break it for you, but St. Patrick's is not all about green pizza or beer. If you are ready to level up, how about trying to make some actual Irish food, and what's more Irish than a potato stew? You'll need lamb, potatoes (two varieties, ideally), onions, carrots, and fresh chives and parsley for garnish. Starting with the lamb, simmer it for about 10 minutes, then add the carrots, potatoes, and onions. Add a stock cube (or homemade stock) and simmer until ready. Add salt and pepper and lo and behold, the smell of St. Patrick is in the air (in a good way)!

Touch

Mar 17: St. Patrick's Day Carnival
There's probably no need to mention that to do this one properly, you'll need to dig out your greenest attire. Red Rose is hosting a St. Patrick's Day carnival in unison with Beijing Foodies, which will include a lucky draw, photo booth, drinks, and, reportedly, cute young professionals. RMB 100, RMB 80 (advance) (includes one drink). 7-11pm. Red Rose
