Retro, Indie, Artsy: Rumble in the Jumble and Silver Salt Markets Hit Beijing

Besides walks and talks on Beijing's past happening over the break, there are a few happenings focusing on a mix of past and present -- or the analog, vintage, and indie -- over the holiday as well. Markets and art are the name of the game at the following two shindigs, with a bit of photography for experts or enthusiasts thrown in for good measure.

Rumble in the Jumble’s EXOTIKO Market

Creative market Rumble in the Jumble is headed to Funfly at Longfusi to put on EXOTIKO. A continuation of their exploration of cultural connection cultivated at their Crisscrossing Borders event in March, EXOTIKO will feature a pop-up market and bazzarday of Beijing’s greatest hits and emerging brands to browse and purchase from, as well as a special – and exotic – variety show to go along with it.

Rumble in the Jumble’s EXOTICO Pop-Up Market, Bazzarday & Exhibition will be happening from 11am-8pm, Friday, Sep 29 to Saturday, Sep 30 at Funfly in Longfusi. Entry is free.

Photowalks and Retro Stuff at Silver Salt Retro Market

Hangzhou’s biggest retro market is making its way to Beijing for the Mid-Autumn/October holiday, putting up shop at Langyuan Station for the duration of Golden Week. Here you’ll find 100+ vintage sellers and fashion brands from all over the country, plus live bands, DJs, workshops, art exhibits and more during the week.

Our friends at FilmNeverDie, sellers of vintage film cameras and camera film, will be attending the market. They’ll be hosting two photography workshops. For Workshop A, FilmNeverDie’s expert guides will walk participants through the process of setting up, and taking photos with, specially provided Fujifilm 400 disposable cameras. After the photos are shot, the film will be developed and digital copies will be provided.

Workshop B is a proper photowalk. Whether you’re a digital camera user or film photography enthusiast, anyone can join in to explore the ins and outs of Langyuan Station, formerly Beijing Textile Factory.

The Silver Salt Retro Market is happening from 1pm-9pm, Saturday, Sep 30 to Thursday, Oct 5 at Langyuan Station. Early bird tickets are RMB 39.9, while at door tickets are RMB 59.9. Those who would like to participate in FilmNeverDie’s Workshop B are encouraged to register in advance by contacting them on WeChat (ID: Fnd_lab).
