Talking Pints: DJs DJs Everywhere

This is a busy weekend for DJs and live music events, so start the night early and work your way around a varied assortment of musical performances. Big party at ChinaDoll tonight, with what they claim - and who are we to argue? - is Beijing's "first UFO party." All the talk of UFOs lately has inspired ChinaDoll to try and tempt the aliens over to 3.3's rooftop. "Hot and sexy alien babes" are all but guaranteed. Dress code: black or neon green. Free. 9pm.

For everyone else, third time’s the charm so start Friday off with DJ Craze, the only DJ to win the World DMC crown three times running, as he makes his third appearance at Punk. As always at Punk, entry is free and the party starts at 10pm. If turntables aren’t your thing, head over to ROOMbeijing and step it up with the all girl electro-pop collective High on Heels (see our interview with the girls here).

Also on Friday, shake your hips to DJ Big Squeeze at Q Bar, dropping beats from boogaloo to boom bap or shimmy on over to Lantern for Union, a two-night event. Session one on Friday includes local DJs Pancake Lee, Eric Lee, QQ, Ou Yang, X.L.F., M.Ross, ELVIS.T and Lupen and session two continues on Saturday with Kaize, Terry Tu, Huang Weiwei, El-Mar, Zhi Qi, Weng Weng and Shen Yue.

El-Mar and co., the organizers of the Great Aircraft Carrier Party and the Great Wall Beach Party, are doing it by the water again for tomorrow's biggest party - only this time it’s at an indoor pool. Put on your swimsuits and get ready to make some waves with DJs Patrick Yu, Ou Yang, Shen Yue, Eric Lee and Sean C. on Saturday August 14 at the Shunjing Spa Hotel (location here) for RMB 250, RMB 200 (advance). Revelry starts at 2pm and will continue deep into the night – consider renting a hotel room if you're going to need a break.

Saturday’s musical lineup extends further with David Mitchell at Q Bar playing African-American music that ranges from soul to hip-hop to funk, and Austrian artist DJ Electric Indigo at Yugong Yishan playing psychedelic techno with a feminine flair. If you need a pick-me-up between musical sessions, Scarlett has a selection of ten special shots for only RMB 88 so get there between 9pm and 1am.

Finish the weekend off with Dan from the Syndicate making a special guest appearance at Sundays on Top at Kokomo. As ever, there'll be BBQ and lots of fun to be had.

In other news, The Stumble Inn just opened in Sanlitun Village South offering 101 different types of beer and a pool table and Laowai’s Lounge is another student-friendly addition to Wudaokou. Over in the Fortune Plaza Mall, by the Grand Millennium Hotel, Le Coq is a French-run bar featuring wine, cocktails and a natty interior design. It's only open Thursday to Saturday at the moment, but there's live music every night. Check them out and tell us what you think of these newbies.
