2010 Aug 31 Helen Feng to Leave Pet Conspiracy?

Although they’ve only been around for two years, Pet Conspiracy has carved out a big name in Beijing’s live scene and have a European tour scheduled for November. So the news that front-person Helen Feng may be leaving the band will come as a shock to many.

Sources close to Feng have indicated she will leave the group after the European tour and focus on her other band Free the Birds (formerly known as Ziyo). At this stage it's not clear why she has decided to leave Pet Conspiracy.

Helen’s stage performances have contributed a lot to Pet Conspiracy’s charm and are a major attraction for fans. But she hasn’t performed with the band for months since injuring herself leaping from the stage at the Strawberry Music Festival back in May. Indeed, some of Pet Conspiracy’s recent shows have given the distinct impression that other members of the band are trying to send the message that Pet Conspiracy will not be any different without her. It will be interesting to see if the group can maintain their momentum without Feng on board.

Watch this space for more news as it comes to hand.

one thing not mentioned in the interview is that she will tour Europe with them as a last commitment.

The Rose Bud, 706 North 1st Street, 798 Art District. Please note the Tresor event listed in this week’s 7 Days Newsletter for Saturday is in fact a panel discussion – the party is on Friday only.

  • Bookshelf: Michael Pettis, Founder, D-22

The book on my shelf with the most sentimental value is probably the very tattered copy of Selden Rodman’s 100 Modern Poems, which I picked up in high school and read obsessively for years. The introduction was brilliant and the selection of poems ended up defining my taste in modernism.

  • New Hope: Residence A Dreams Big

Nowadays in Beijing, a lot of young rockers are eager to dive into the flow of the market, hoping to catch a big wave. Then you have the boys from Residence A, who for two years have simply been making the music that their heart tells them to – and the result is a seriously promising young band.

  • Power, Piers Morgan and Post-Rock: Mogwai Set For Modern Sky

Quiet. Loud. Quiet again. Not the most accurate description of Mogwai's music, but not bad for a four-word introduction to one of the most influential bands ever to have come out of Scotland. We spoke to the band's resident multi-instrumentalist, Barry Burns, as Mogwai prepared for their slot closing out the last night of this week's Modern Sky Festival (Oct 3-5: For details on the festival lineup and ticket information, see our Live Music Roundup). We started by asking Barry about the band's Gremlins-inspired name ...
