Pricey Homestyle: Ga Tao's Taiwanese Food in Shuangjing

Ga Tao's Taiwanese food is decent, but it doesn't come cheap. Let me clarify: It's not so much prohibitively expensive as that the pricing doesn't offer good value.

I'm not usually one to complain about price, but it's definitely an issue here. For instance, I enjoyed the rather large bowl of beef noodle soup, but expected more from it because it cost RMB 48. At that cost, I'd expect a fuller soup flavor and better beef.

At least the braised pork rice (lurou fan ) is fair at RMB 18. I won't be writing home to my Taiwanese in-laws about it, but I'd happily eat it again. I also tried the three-cup chicken (RMB 48) and liked it, but still found it lacked a special something.

Ga Tao looks promising, but it's unremarkable for a Taiwanese place. I'd rather head to Taipei Kitchen for the down-home style or Shin Yeh when I'm willing to spend. I might even go to Bellagio instead, since they have those yummy desserts there.
