Community Matters: Car-Free Bike Ride and North Korea Fun Run

Enjoy a bike ride away from traffic and pollution this Saturday. Serk is hosting a car-free ride around Tongzhou Canal Park and the Tongzhou government is chipping in with free transportation to the waterway. Suggested rides will be divided into 20 kilometer and 60 kilometer routes to accommodate different levels, but participants are free to roam the park at their pleasure. The municipality of Tongzhou opened the park's 60 kilometer Grand Canal green road last year, fully equipped for cyclists. More info and registration details for the event are available on Serk’s website.

Koryo Tours has also given word that their charity fun run in North Korea was a huge success, despite a minor hiccup – they arrived finding their original route along Sports Street in Pyongyang under construction. As the tour group puts it, “a group of tourists running through Army Construction Workers' Barracks was not going to happen!” So the run was moved to the Taedong River and ended climatically with 50 tourists running a lap of honor around Kim Il Sung square. This was Koryo’s first charity fun run and it was extremely successful, raising EUR 2000 for an orphanage in Nampo. A video of the event is available on Youtube.
