Talking Pints: A Big TBJ Bash and the Return of The Tease Boutique

The weekend is here and there's plenty to be getting on with. For starters, there's the latest Tease Boutique party after a short break. It's being called a Secret Night Picnic Party. As usual, details are a little sketchy and you have to email them if you want more details about the soiree. One thing of which you can be assured is that there'll be drinking, dancing and some outlandish party wear. There will also be body and face painting.

If you haven't heard by now, tomorrow is our annual bash in celebration of another fine year on the Beijing bar and club scene. We want to celebrate with the great and the good of Beijing at our Annual Reader Bar & Club Awardsthe tenth edition, no less – and you're invited, too. RMB 200 (on the door) will get you as much food and drink as you can cram down you between 4 and 9pm. We're holding the bash in fresh dwellings, as well. The swanky new Galaxy SOHO. Click here to find out where it is. See you there.

And if you wanna warm up for that with a few pints and a bowl of chilli, why not head along to the Shuangjing Block Party and Chili Cook-Off on Pingod Art Street? They've got plenty going on to keep you entertained for a few hours before you head over to Galaxy SOHO. Please note: there will be children in attendance. That gets going at 11am.

Seems like Gongti mainstay Vics is closing up for the summer. One eagle-eyed member of our team spied this post on Facebook:

"'The Last Dance.' Last Party before VICS closes until fall. Special Performances by DJ Kableguy & MC Black Santa. Also don't miss the "Lottery Time Capsule" ticket and win RMB 10,000 when VICS opens again in fall! Reservation Hotline: Steven 186 8050 5849."

That's this Saturday (May 18).

House DJ Sasha is in town at the end of this month. He spins at Elements Club on May 31, and you can get your tickets here.

Beijing Boyce yesterday revealed details of a new craft beer festival that we have to look forward to next month. The brilliantly named National Beijing Beer Geeks’ Festival is set for June 15, a week before the second annual Beijing Craft Beer Festival.

The Purple Jade Resort will host a pool party next month, and the pictures look class. Summer Wave 2013 goes ahead on Saturday June 8. They say you have to follow their WeChat (summerwave2013) for more information.

Great Leap are now allowing stragglers to mosey in off the street as it inches ever closer to a full and proper opening. After a couple of weeks of reservation-only tastings, feel free to swing by between 6pm and midnight from Tuesday to Sunday.

Finally, you know the summer's here when you start to hear of some of the more cookie events. Remember the women's jelly wrestling last summer? No? Unlucky. You might be able to make up for missing out this summer though: Juicy, or J Club, is holding a Wet T-Shirt Contest on Saturday May 25. For those "possessed with mad ghost" there's a chance of a crack at a cool RMB 2000. Obviously, girls get in free on the night, it'll cost the blokes RMB 50 for the pleasure.

Some of the weekend's highlights:

  • Kirk Degiorgio is in town tonight (May 17). The UK techno legend drops at Lantern from 10pm, and it'll cost you RMB 100 to get in on the door.
  • Down in Shuangjing, Grinders is doing a 50s Friday night. That means '50s music, RMB 50 Tiger pitchers, RMB 50 cocktails, RMB 50 subs, and erm, RMB 5 Vodka Red Bulls (between 9 and 11pm).
  • Suzie Wong's will host a Las Vegas Night this evening (May 17) complete with games, prizes and a Broadway show.
  • Tomorrow night (May 18) over at Chaoyang Park, the Black Sun needs you! Celebrate their Armed Forces Day when they'll be offering all night drinks specials to past or present members of the forces – and even those who just come dressed the part.
  • Irish funnyman Des Bishop returns to The Bookworm tomorrow night (May 18) for the monthly comedy showcase.
  • Tomorrow night (May 18) also sees DJs Wordy & Soulspeak at Migas for Hotpot up on the rooftop.

Did you get out to the Great Wall Music Festival last weekend? The verdict has been mixed on the event (I had a blast, I think) but this young buck sure enjoyed it. He strapped a camera to his bonce and recorded the whole shooting match for posterity. Give it a watch, he says, you just might see yourself.

Plenty of options I haven't had time to mention here. Head here and take a look for yourself.

Wherever you get to, have a splendid weekend. Hopefully, we'll see you on Saturday.
