Talking Tunes: Canyons Cancelled, Shabazz Palaces and 'dazeFEAST Pack Saturday Night

This weekend will be pretty snazzy, with hip hop genre blenders Shabazz Palaces blasting holes through Migas and DazeFeast testing our musical endurance with a side of roasted goat. We also just received news of a possible date for Owl City during his mini tour of Asia this August.

Shabazz Palaces are hailing from Seattle on Saturday (June 29), and they are bringing their heavy blend of hip hop and psychedelia to the land of dragons and buddhas. Along with the fact that little is known about their identities, and that they are the only hip hop group on a notoriously rock-centered label, it is said that they are a genuinely progressive group with a great instinct and craft for their music. Here's a little taste of what you're in for:

DazeFeast will be an illuminating presentation of not only Beijing’s dominating music scene, but also our stamina when it comes to an all day party. Head to 2 Kolegas on Saturday (June 29) for roasted goat and numerous live acts, including Not There, The Subs, Randy Abel Stable, Residence A, and 16mins. Here's more on the lineup, and stay tuned for other coverage on the event.

And finally, some breaking news: Owl City, an American electronica music project by singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Adam Young, will be touring a few select cities in Asia this August, with a possible Beijing date in the works. The date would be before his Shanghai gig on August 20, because there are a few open days where he could fit in our music-loving city. Will let you know when we have a time confirmed.

On to the weekend highlights:

What is What is a Sinotronics venture tomorrow night (June 28) at What Bar and will feature plenty of sub underground ambient electronica for your pleasure.

The Drop presents Buck Em Clowns tomorrow night at Yugong Yishan, a live drum and bass and dubstep experience not to be missed.

Don't go looking for Canyons at Dada tomorrow night because you won't find them. The Aussie DJ team couldn't make it to Beijing because of "visa complications," according to an announcement from the promoters. Noise In My Head and DJ Shackup will be bringing the grooves instead.

KTR Records is showcasing a couple of heavy hitters on their label tomorrow night, including personal favorite Skip Skip Ben Ben.
