Maovember Sets Sights on Big Finale and Goal of RMB 80,000

As maovember moves into its final week, with its early fundraising goal of RMB 20,000 firmly in the rearview mirror, organizers have set their sights on a new number: RMB 80,000. After last weekend's activities and donations raised the total to RMB 70,642, that goal is firmly in sight.

One hundred percent of donations to the local variant of Movember will benefit Orbis China, this year's maovember charity partner. Every increment of RMB 800 pays for one sight-restoring cataract operation for a person in China in need, hence the RMB 80,000 goal, which would mean fully funding 100 surgeries.

This week features more maovember fundraising events: a charity quiz at Q Mex on Wednesday, a mustache bash at Paddy O’Shea’s on Friday, and The Beijing Beatles at George’s Bar on Sunday, with even more to be announced.

The inaugural, 2013 Maovember raised over RMB 22,000 and furnished a small library at a migrant children’s school on the outskirts of Beijing.
