Burger Brief: Lily's American Diner's Lily’s Burger

Burger Brief takes a look at some of the top seeds in the Beijinger 2015 Burger Cup ranking. Next up, we talk to Lily's and see why it's placed high in the pre-tournament seedings.

Name: Zhou “Joe” Yan
Nationality: Chinese
Number of years in Beijing: 8
Venue: Lily’s American Diner (LAD)
Name of signature burger: The Lily’s Burger

Tell us about your signature burger. What makes it the best burger in Beijing?
The Lily's burger is our signature burger and is unique to Beijing. We won't give out all our secrets but this burger includes fresh creamy coleslaw – not too much mayo! – and sliced cheese and bacon. Our customers just love the Lily's burger. All our burgers are made with fresh ground beef and with the best ingredients that we can source. We also bake our hamburger buns daily onsite.

What does the burger come with?
Our home made fries or a salad.

What other burgers do you have on the menu?
We have several others including a Texas burger, a veggie burger, a blue cheese burger and our popular Joe’s Pulled Pork sandwich.

What was the best burger you’ve ever had, in Beijing or otherwise?
Unfortunately, I haven’t had the chance to travel that much and try burger restaurants in other places. I’ve tried the burgers at many restaurants in Beijing like Let’s Burger, and it’s pretty good, but it’s not really my favorite. But the best burger I’ve ever had was made by my friend Sandy. She’s from Canada, and it’s her Mom’s homemade recipe, so she would put fresh coleslaw on it. It was the inspiration for the Lily’s Burger, so it’s my favorite.
