Beijing Continues Battle on Pollution: Air Monitoring Stations to Double in City

In the continuing battle against air pollution, Beijing's environmental protection department is aiming to double the number of air quality monitoring stations throughout the city to close to 70.

Hopes are that these stations be dispersed throughout the city center as well as the suburbs and mountainous regions in order to further develop air quality throughout the entire region. The new monitoring network will cover four sub-networks, and their respective functions include: overall evaluation, pollution monitoring, regional evaluation, and trend monitoring.

Currently, 35 stations throughout Beijing monitor the AQI in real time.

This news comes mere days after Beijing also announced that it will build air ventilation corridors through the city in order to allow for more regular air access which is hoped to also fight air pollution. Whatever the means, let's hope things continue to improve and the city's new air quality monitoring system doesn't have to be brought into use too much.
