Get Your Coffee Fix, or Problems Fixed, in Peace, Away From the Crowds at Nanluogu Xiang

Nestled in Banchang Hutong, just off Nanluogu Xiang, is a haven of peace, quiet, community vibes, and caffeine. It wasn't long ago that we can recall moaning about how there wasn't any good coffee in Beijing, well, a couple years down the road and that is most certainly no longer the case, especially with Fix now on board, demonstrating just what is to be a great coffee shop selling wonderful coffee.

The space itself is cozy, with huge windows looking out onto the hutong, which is the view that backdropped our interview with owner Sami Wong, who also runs therapy from her office located just behind the café. We discussed how both the space and the name Fix came to be.

"Fix as a word is sharp and short in spelling, we'd like our local neighbors to find it easy to remember and pronounce." And that they do, as Fix has not only become a place for people to gather, get a cup of coffee, or to do their work from, but Fix is also somewhat of a neighorhood fixture, receiving parcels for the surrounding Beijingers.

"Fix is mostly used in the West when people say 'let me fix you something to drink,' and in this context, fix you a cup of coffee makes perfect sense. But Fix is never just about coffee, it's also stems from my psychotherapeutic work in the back; my job is to fix people's problems in some way, given that they work hard on their issues."

As well as helping to treat mental health and providing a community for coffee-lovers and laptop warriors, Sami has ensured that Fix's coffee is delicious and made with love and care. An espresso or Americano will set you back RMB 22, and a latte RMB 30, which is a small price to pay for a little peace of mind in this hectic city.

Our only concern with Fix is that due to size constraints, we wouldn't necessarily show up with more than one friend or two friends  at the same time, as there are no tables to sit around in a group, only barstools lined up against the bar and the windowsill. However, this just means that none of those pesky Nanluogu Xiang tour groups can squeeze in to disturb the peace.
