I did some research for this article - I know, amazing, isn't it? *smile* - and the US divorce rate is much lower than is often suggested, particularly the much quoted but mythical 50 percent figure.
It's hard to pin down an actual "divorce rate" as such, because there's no official definition and you're often not comparing like with like. But the best evidence I could find suggested that 75 percent of American marriages last "till death do them part."
I suspect that when people make this commitment despite all the barriers of language, culture and law, that their commitment is all the stronger, and all the more likely to stand the test of time. And the statistics tend to support this idea.
