The Hollywood Movies Hoping to Make It to China

We’ve shown before how when local media say there’s a “possibility” a foreign film will be shown in China, it more often than not means it totally will.

Hollywood honchos are wising up on what they need to do to access the Chinese market and are taking into consideration Chinese sensibilities before they even give projects the green-light.

So when studios start dripping out Chinese-language versions of their marketing material on WeChat and Weibo, it’s a good sign those movies have already been given a wink and a nod by the censors.

Of course, it’s ain’t over till those officials wave their magic wands. So with that caveat in mind, here are the Hollywood films that the Chinese media reckon have a good chance of making it onto cinema screens in the mainland.

Trolls (魔发精灵)
From the creators of Shrek comes DreamWorks Animation's Trolls. They’re calling it “a fresh, broad comedy filled with music, heart and hair-raising adventures.”

Inferno (但丁密码)
In the sequel to The DaVinci Code, Tom Hanks teams up with Felicity Jones as they race across Europe and against the clock to stop a madman from unleashing a global virus that would wipe out half of the world’s population.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle (王牌特工:黄金圈)
The sequel to the British-American spy action comedy sees Taron Egerton’s Eggsy and Mark Strong’s Merlin heading to the US, where they join forces with their American counterparts.

Moana (海洋奇缘)
Disney’s Moana, sees a once-mighty demigod (Dwayne Johnson) and a spirited teenager (Auli'i Cravalho) embark on an epic adventure across the ocean.

The BFG (圆梦巨人)
Steven Spielberg brings to life Roald Dahl’s 1982 classic children's book about sweet orphan Sophie and the kind giant who befriends her.

Doctor Strange (奇异博士)
Marvel’s Doctor Strange follows the story of the talented neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a tragic car accident, finds new purpose when a mystical being known as the Ancient One reveals that he is the newly designated “Sorcerer Supreme.”

I've always had a thing for 3D movies.
