Mardi Gras Madness: Nola, DDC, and Caravan to Help You Get Fat and Have Fun This Year

Beads will be tossed, booze will be guzzled and pancakes will be gobbled down this coming Tuesday and throughout the weekend, as numerous bars and restaurants give Beijingers a taste of the Bayou for Mardi Gras.

If you can't take Fat Tuesday off then you're in luck, as one of the funnest events are slated for the preceding weekend. Below we've rounded up some of the best (and will add info about others as we hear more):

Feb 25: Mardi Gras in Beijing ft. Steve Mac & The Mac Daddies and The Hunters
Steve Mac & The Mac Daddies and The Hunters head to DDC to play some parade worthy tunes that'll have people moving into Sunday morning. For more, click here. 9pm-late. RMB 70, RMB 55 (advance). DDC

Feb 28: Mardi Gras at Nola
The band Coupla Cups will perform at Beijing's top Mardi Gras venue, the aptly titled Nola restaurant owned and operated by Big Easy chef Brandon Trowbridge. A buffet of New Orleanian cuisine will also be on hand including a shrimp boil, jambalaya, andouille sausage, fried chicken, and one of those legendary king cakes to keep with Mardi Gras tradition. There will also be a trivia contest to crown Nola’s Zulu coconut and plenty of beads to help you start acting inappropriately in no time. The entry fee gets you access to that tasty grub, along with two drinks of your choice: beers, cocktails or daiquiris. 7pm-midnight. RMB 200. Nola (for reservations, call 8563 6215).

Feb 28: Mardi Gras at Caravan
The Guanghua Lu bar and restaurant will serve Louisiana crawfish, merguez jambalaya and live Bayou-style tunes come next Tuesday. The bar will also serve special Sazeracs and Hurricanes. 6pm onwards. Caravan
