Vino News: Cheers Sixth Anniversary Party, Free Kiwi Wine Tasting, Riesling Tasting

In vino veritas or in wine, there’s truth. We can see why you might think that we are biased, with over 60 What’s Up in Beer blogs and not a single wine roundup, so, "what’s up in wine?” Let's take a look at what Beijing has in store for those who like to have a glass, or six, we won't judge, of wine.

Turning six, Cheers will host their birthday party at 1949 Hidden City on May 6. The event is free, but even better, there will also be free Marquis Bernard sparkling wine all night (4-11pm) along with deals on other drinks – RMB 20 a glass on a selection of wines, RMB 25 on all bottled Mikkeller beers, and RMB 10 on all shots. To combine with those drinks, there will be RMB 20 crepes from Crepanini, RMB 12 Baozza (or RMB 40 for four pieces), and sausage sandwiches (RMB 35) as well as philly cheese steak sandwiches (RMB 50) from Andy’s Craft Sausages.

Several wineries from New Zealand will organize two (free!) small tastings at Cafe Flatwhite's 751 location on May 8 and 9, starting at 2.30pm. Wines you can taste are award-winning Le Phant Rouge 2014 and Sauvignon Blanc 2014 from Elephant Hill (vineyard pictured at the top), which was founded by a German couple; Reydan Weiss and Roger Weiss 2001 from Hawke’s Bay; Crofters Syrah 2014 from Stonecroft in Gimblett Gravels, which is one of the oldest Syrah's from New Zealand; Gold River Pinot Noir 2014 from Gibbston Valley which was built around 1981 in Central Otago; and Hawksdrift Sauvignon Blanc 2016 located in Dillon’s Point. RSVP to WeChat (ID: Cafe-Flatwhite).

And finally, we all know that Riesling is a great wine to drink during summer, which is why Sureño, will host a Riesling tasting with five variations of wines on May 13, 3-5pm for RMB 200. RSVP to ashleygao@swirehotels.com to confirm your attendance.
