Rustic Textures and Creative Flavors: Symphony Bakery Nails It

What could be more convenient than a bakery on the ground floor of your building? It allows you to get up at your leisure, amble downstairs with your eyes half-open, and settle down with a cup of joe and freshly baked bread. Symphony is one such bakery, offering residents in Central Park a carb-loaded dream come true.

Next to Echo Juice, Symphony looks like the opposite of that health conscious juice store, with piles of loaves, pastries, and snacks piled high on the shelves. Among the goodies, you'll find baguettes, croissants, pretzels, puffs, toasts, and Japanese-style bread with red bean, matcha, walnut, and edamame. And of course, the heavenly bready aroma of freshly baked bread floating in the air, straight from the back.

The Chinese yam with rye bread (RMB 18) was springy, with a grainy texture that came courtesy of its whole wheat and rye base. And the blueberry with cheese bread (RMB 22), also made with whole wheat and rye, sported fillings of sweet cream cheese and a layer of blueberry mixed with cream. It might sound offbeat, but it was a successful combination.

Symphony also offers coffee, along with choices of tea, milk tea, and even milk and soy milk. Frankly, it’s not a fancy place hawking all-organic, gluten-free, pricey loaves. Instead, Symphony does the simple things right: fresh, belly-busting bread with rustic textures and creative flavors.
