EAT: V Day at Hulu, Common Burger Pops Down, Wine Tasting Events

EAT: Your bite-sized guide to the best eats to be had in Beijing this week.

Valentine's Day Menu and "Young Love" Deal at Hulu

Hulu has given some of their most popular dishes, such as gravlax and steak tartare, a Valentine's Day makeover, adding cute (and very 'grammable) heart-shaped details. Even better, all the Valentine's Day dishes are available to order a la carte for lunch and dinner until Feb 17, so you don't have to worry if you miss the day itself. If you happen to be a student, flash your student ID card to get their "Young Love" Valentine's Day menu, which includes some of the aforementioned heart-shaped details, for RMB 198 for two.

Common Burger Pops Down

Unfortunately, the time has come to say goodbye to one of Hatchery's longest-running pop-up concepts, Common Burger. Starting Feb 16, there will be a full week of deals to help burger fans say goodbye to them in style, including 50 percent off all Common Burger items on Sat, Feb 16 and Sun, Feb 17, 50 percent off veggie items on Mon, Feb 18, and free fries on Tue, Feb 19. Full details about all of the deals here. Common Burger will be replaced by Vietnamese pop-up Suru Suru, which specializes in Vietnamese vermicelli noodles. More information about that and an upcoming party on Feb 23 in this post on the Hatchery WeChat.

BJ Wine Tasting Club at Arcade by Hatchery

Join BJ Wine Tasting Club and wine expert Fani Bar at Arcade on Friday, Feb 22 to discover five wines and delicious food pairing. The tasting/pairing is priced at RMB 368 per person. Learn about wine basics, network, and stay for video games afterward! BJ Wine Tasting Club describe themselves as an inclusive social club to unwind, try a few new wines, enjoy some different food pairings and – maybe – learn a thing or two in the process. All are welcome! No previous wine tasting, experience or pretensions required.

Speaking of wine, every Wednesday (technically just Feb 13 and Feb 20) is wine day at Hulu, when they are offering a set menu of sharing dishes accompanied by four Italian wines (two white and two red) for RMB 298 plus RMB 100 for free-flow wine. A number of foodies we know went along last time they hosted a similar event and were impressed by the sheer amount of food and the generosity of the wine pours.
